Finding the right publicist or manager is crucial for any musician looking to make a significant impact in the industry. But what exactly are these professionals looking for when they decide to take on a new artist? Here are the key factors that make a musician stand out and catch my eye.

Music I’m Obsessed With

The first and most important thing I look for is music that I genuinely love. If your music isn’t something I’d listen to on my own, our working relationship won’t be successful. This is a critical starting point because you want a publicist or manager who is genuinely passionate about your music and eager to share it with the world. Don’t trust someone who downplays this aspect—it all begins with a deep connection to your sound.

A Clear Vision

Having a strong vision for your career and what you want to promote is essential for a successful PR campaign. If you’re still figuring things out, that’s perfectly fine! We offer starter services to help you clarify your brand, social media presence, and overall strategy.

However, to embark on a full-scale PR campaign, you need to have a clear idea of your goals and be ready to work with a partner (like me!) who can help you achieve them.

A Track Record

While I take pride in working with artists at all stages of their careers, top-level services like management and PR require a bit of a track record. You don’t need to be signed to a label or have a massive fanbase, but you should have some buzz, a clear vision, and dedicated fans.

If you’re not quite there yet, that’s okay! We can start with services like branding or strategy sessions to help you build the foundation you need.

A Strong Work Ethic

Not every musician is a perfect fit for my roster. I look for artists with a strong work ethic because my reputation is also on the line. If I secure opportunities for you, I need to know you’ll show up and deliver your best. I work hard, and I expect the same dedication from my clients.

Remember, no one will fight for your career as hard as you will, so bring a work ethic that matches your ambitions.

Curiosity

To thrive in the music industry, you must stay curious. It’s easy to get bogged down by stress, but maintaining a sense of curiosity keeps you open and excited about your work. Embrace change and seek out new opportunities to grow rather than sticking to what’s familiar.

Curiosity drives innovation and keeps your career dynamic and evolving.

A “Do What It Takes” Attitude

I want to work with artists who live and breathe their passion. Whether music is your hobby or your livelihood, I want to see your excitement and ambition. This means doing the hard things—investing in your career, attending shows, networking, and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. Success requires a willingness to go the extra mile and take on challenges head-on.
