As a Colorado native, it’s no surprise that Ruby Greenberg’s music perfectly embodies an enchanting view of the mountainside. Her gorgeous indie-folk melodies and captivating lyricism are the perfect recipe for a stroll in the countryside or a euphoric walk through the forest.
At only 5 years old, Ruby discovered her love for singing – a love that grew into a passion for music and songwriting. Whether it was riding in the car, doing chores around the house, or even performing at school talent shows, she always found herself in song. Music became more than just an outlet for her emotions, however, it was her power to connect with the people she loved. “I’ve always wanted to create connection with other people,” she explains. “I want to use empathy to build that connection and reach people, and I think the way I reach that deeper level is through music.”
After pursuing jazz school during her college years, Ruby found herself fully immersed in the industry, performing in jazz clubs, bars, and restaurants. It was clear that she was destined for a path on the music scene, but she would begin her solo career performing in a different genre than she expected. Pivoting from jazz gigs, she realized that the singer-songwriter style was where she belonged and embraced her calling as a musical storyteller, immediately self-producing local shows, booking regional tours, and even recording her own music. The transition was an awakening in itself, but it also allowed her to undergo a transformation that would make her the artist she is today. Pursuing her original music and creating a deep relationship with the songwriting process, she personified the elegant, serene sounds of folk and Americana, delivering songs that are genuine, real, and above all, a sentiment to be experienced aurally.
Now established in New York City, Ruby remains connected to her love for the outdoors. Using her mountain-view roots as writing inspiration, she also draws ideas from the influences of Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile – two greats that pushed past boundaries to tell meaningful stories in the way she hopes to as well. After five years of writing and composing, the natural-born poet continued her musical journey in October 2021 with the release of her nostalgic single “Run Away,” which embodied her experiences after arriving in New York, along with the memories from back home that she keeps close to her heart.
2022 sees the contemporary indie-folk artist returning once again with her newest single titled “Roses,” an alluring hymn that celebrates human connection and radiates with her appreciation for those closest to her, inviting them to be as they are. Ruby’s latest releases mean more to her than any others have before. They’re a dedication to the people she loves, harnessing the powerful emotions of her memories and allowing her own authentic voice emerge.
